Semifinals Recap: DeMatha, Bullis advance to Championship

Semifinals Recap: DeMatha, Bullis advance to Championship

DeMatha vs Greenbelt

In a heated affair with crowd noise bouncing off the walls of the DeMatha gymnasium, the DeMatha Stags outlasted Greenbelt, winning 57-51. Logan Lewis (#22) was the biggest component in the DeMatha victory, with 12 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Despite being eliminated, Greenbelt has very much to be proud of. Finishing with 7 wins after having played no basketball since the beginning of the pandemic is not easy, and that is a testament to the team’s strength. This game was filled with passion from coaches, players and fans alike. One side of the gym would roar whenever their team did something good, as there were plenty of momentum shifts in the game, which was back and forth most of the time. In the final minutes of the game, Greenbelt found momentum and attempted a comeback, but DeMatha’s skill and resilience ultimately sent them to the championship, and Greenbelt home.

Bullis vs Gonzaga

Bullis eliminated Gonzaga in another good semifinal matchup, winning 56-46. Nick Viqueria (#35) had a standout performance for Bullis with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists. Viqueria’s teammate, Tyler Boston (#50) also had a good game with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists, despite suffering an injury to his face late in the game. Whether or not he will play in the championship game remains to be seen. Like Greenbelt, Gonzaga has much to be proud of despite being eliminated. The development of players such as Devin Dinkins, Quinn Clark and more should be a good sign for their upcoming season.
