Good Counsel vs Riverdale Baptist

Riverdale Baptist gets back in the win column, moving to 6-1 with a win against Good Counsel, 86-74.

Both teams were out and running early with Good Counsel scoring a layup seven seconds in, and Riverdale Baptist hitting a three in the ensuing possession. Riverdale Baptist took a 17-8 lead four minutes into the half led by big man Ashley Sims (‘25, F). Sims showcased his smooth handle in transition for his size and scored 12 points in the first half, going 6-of-6 from the field. 

Parker Robinson (‘26, G) led the way for Good Counsel. Robinson looked for his shot behind the arc, shooting 4-of-6 from three in the first half. However, Good Counsel couldn’t maintain Riverdale Baptist on the glass, out rebounding Good Counsel 23-7. 

The rebounding wasn’t the only disparity in the first half. Riverdale was much more efficient from the field, shooting 58.6% compared to 33.3% from Good Counsel, which gave Riverdale a 43-28 halftime lead.

Riverdale Baptist continued to shoot lights out, finishing the game 10-of-21 from three. Xavier Pickett (‘24, G) played a big part in Riverdale’s shooting performance, hitting four shots from behind the arc. Amaree Hawkins (‘25, G) and Dominic Carr (‘25, F) also had impressive performances, scoring 14 and 11 points respectively.

Good Counsel was able to come back late in the second half, ramping up their full court pressure. They were able cut the deficit to 11, but a missed three on a steal from Justin Brumbay (‘24, G) lost the momentum for Good Counsel.

Riverdale Baptist will face the Mustangs on June 12th in hopes of securing a top seed in the playoffs. Good Counsel will also play on June 12th but against the Vikes.
