Week 2 Players of the Week

Cole Bowser, DeMatha ‘25 

  • vs Brandywine Boyz: 16 pt, 6 reb, 1 stl, 1 blk
  • vs Bullis: 24 pt, 8 reb, 1 stl

Bowser showcased his ability this past week against two high caliber teams. Bowser has great length, standing at 6’6″, to go along with a great shooting stroke. Bowser went 5-of-10 from three against Bullis, including a huge three to give Dematha the lead in the final seconds. 

 

Gio Sanford, Greenbelt (Eleanor Roosevelt) ‘25

  • vs Tenley Tigers (Jackson Reed): 20 pt, 6 reb, 1 stl
  • vs Landon: 16 pt, 5 reb, 3 stl
  • vs Cadets (Frederick): 12 pt, 4 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl
  • vs Patriots (Wootton): 29 pt, 9 reb, 3 stl
  • vs McNamara: 27 pt, 6 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl

Sanford did it all for Greenbelt this week, averaging 20.8 points and 5.4 rebounds while tallying nine steals in five games. Sanford is an athletic point forward who takes on the majority of Greenbelts offensive responsibilities. There are not too many wings in the Summer League who can keep Sanford in front of him, which was evident this past week.

Blake Neal, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes’ ‘24

  • vs Patriots (Wootton): 20 pt, 1 stl, 1 blk
  • vs Forest Park: 24 pt, 4 reb
  • vs South Lakes: 8 pt, 5 reb

Neal helped lift St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes to a 3-0 record this past week. Neal is an athletic forward who can handle the ball well for his size. Neal also possesses a nice jumper, shooting above 50 percent from the field in all his games this week. 

 

Tey Barbour, Patriot ‘24

  • vs South Lakes: 20 pt, 8 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk
  • vs Good Counsel: 21 pt, 14 reb, 2 ast, 3 stl

Following two twenty-point performances (51% from the field), Tey Barbour makes his debut on our Players of the Week list. In a nailbiter loss against in-state rival South Lakes, Barbour put up 20 points and 8 boards. He followed that performance with a double-double, leading Patriot to their first summer league win of the season over Good Counsel.

 

Elwyne Wordlaw, Cadets (Frederick) ‘24

  • vs Greenbelt (Eleanor Roosevelt): 15 pt, 10 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl
  • vs Grace Brethren: 27 pt, 4 reb, 5 ast (game-winning 3-pointer)

Wordlaw was bigtime for the Cadets including a game winner against a good Grace Brethren squad. Wordlaw lifted the Cadets to a 2-0 record this week, shining in both games. Wordlaw had a double-double in a win against Greenbelt, in addition to 27 points and a win against Grace Brethren.

Ty Bevins, Brandywine Boyz (Gwynn Park) ‘24

  • vs Dematha: 17 pt, 5 reb, 2 ast, 4 stl
  • vs McNamara: 41 pt, 7 reb, 5 ast, 1 stl
  • vs Forest Park: 8 pt, 6 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl

Bevins makes another appearance on the Players of the Week as he had a 41 point game against McNamara, including 6 threes, shooting 73% from the field. Bevins embraced the challenge of two WCAC powerhouses, showcasing his leadership and elite level guard play. Bevins is unfazed by any defender, using his size and athleticism to create space for his jumper. 

 

Brandon Edozie, Forest Park ‘25

  • vs St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes: 10 pt, 7 reb
  • vs St. Albans: 19 pt, 7 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk
  • vs Brandywine Boyz (Gwynn Park): 10 pt, 10 reb, 1 blk

Edozie is a massive big man for Forest Park, listed at 6’7″. Along with his great size, Edozie has impressive footwork and showcased a multitude of nice post moves this past week. Forest Park looks to run their offense through Edozie in the low post, which Edozie proved why, averaging 13 points over the last three games.

Francis Folefac, Mt. Zion ‘25

  • vs Grace Brethren: 20 pt, 6 reb 3 blk
  • vs Spalding: 16 pt

Folefac is an athletic forward for Mt. Zion and an anchor defensively. Folefac had a huge game against conference rival Grace Brethren, finishing with 20 points and three blocks. Folefac followed up with a 16 point performance in a win against a tough Spalding team. 

 

Qayden Samuels, McNamara ‘26

  • vs Brandywine Boyz (Gwynn Park): 16 pt, 7 reb
  • vs Bulldogs (Churchill): 23 pt, 3 reb
  • vs Greenbelt (Eleanor Roosevelt): 16 pt, 6 reb, 2 stl

Samuels is only a rising sophomore, but led McNamara this past week to a 2-1 record. Samuels has good size at the guard position, listed at 6’4″. Samuels impressed from behind the arc, shooting 10-of-22 from three in this week’s games. Samuels is one of the top scorers to start the summer league.

Jaylen Wills, St. Albans ‘25

  • vs Bruins (Broadneck): 29 pt
  • vs Forest Park: 14 pt, 3 reb, 4 ast
  • vs Bulldogs (Churchill): 19 pt, 6 reb, 1 stl

Wills shone for St. Albans, scoring at will for the Bulldogs. Wills gave St. Albans their first win of the year, coming against the Bruins where he tallied 29 points. Wills is an elite shot creator and has a smooth jumper to go along with a quick first step.
