Here’s a look at our pick of 10 “players of the week” plus some other standout performers from Week 1.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Jaylen Wills (St. Albans ’25) – 36.0 ppg (65%/54%/100%), 5 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.3 spg (3 games)
Grant Polk
(St. Albans ’25) – 30.0 ppg (51%/47%/100%), 9 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.0 spg (2 games)

The biggest talk of Summer League so far? The St. Albans Bulldogs.  Jaylen Wills and Grant Polk have been unbelievable through the first week, leading St. Albans to a 3-0 record atop the CHSL standings.  Wills has yet to score less than 33 points in a game so far and is shooting a ridiculous 65% while scoring from all 3 levels.  Polk did not play in the first game against Sandy Spring, but put up 30 points in back-to-back games against the Warriors and The Brook while shooting over 50% from the field.  Neither player has missed a free throw yet.

Qayden Samuels (McNamara ’26) – 30.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 3.0 spg, 1.5 bpg (2 games)

The four star guard from McNamara has been all over the court for the Mustangs.  While known for his scoring ability, his defensive effort and intensity in Week 1 was nothing short of relentless.   Against Tenley (Jackson-Reed), Samuels had 30 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and shot 13-14 from the line.

Cameron Young (Cardozo ’25) – 26.0 ppg, 7.5 apg, 5.5 rpg, 6.0 spg (2 games)

One of the new teams to the CHSL was Cardozo, who impressed with a 2-0 opening week. They were led by a handful of athletic guards, but Cameron Young made the biggest impression in their two games. Young showcased his elite ability to get to the rim and get to the free throw line – attempting 20 free throws in 2 games.  Young was just as impressive on the defensive end. Young’s quick hands and lateral quickness led to 12 steals, which leads all of summer league.

Frankie Mannino (Landon ‘25) – 20.0 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2.5 spg, 1.0 bpg (2 games)

Frankie Mannino carried over his impressive ‘23 summer league into the opening week of the ‘24 summer league season, averaging a 20/11 double-double. Mannino was dominant on the offensive glass, notching 23 rebounds, which leads summer league. Mannino is very smooth with the ball in his hands and has a polished mid-range game.

Jamie Finn (South River ’26) – 41.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2apg, 3 spg (1 game)

Jamie Finn only played in one game this week, but had the most impressive individual performance of the week. Finn scored 41 points against Greenbelt, giving the Seahawks their first win of the summer league. Finn knocked down nine 3 pointers. Finn’s quick release and smooth jumper make him a lethal offensive weapon for the Seahawks. Finn also had three steals against Greenbelt, which helped stage off a late comeback attempt from Greenbelt.

Andrew Maria (Yorktown ‘25) – 26.5 ppg (68%), 5.0 rpg

Andrew Maria is one of the more explosive players in summer league this year, finishing multiple transition opportunities with some highlight dunks. Maria isn’t only a flashy athlete as he showed the ability to knockdown perimeter shots, hitting three 3 pointers in a close loss to the Vikes. Maria helped his team rebound with a win against the Good Fellas with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal + 1 block.

Kaylen Chilton (CG Woodson ’27) – 24.0 ppg (59%/60%/90%), 4.0 rpg, 1.5 spg

The 5’9 guard has been extremely impressive with his ability to score at all 3 levels efficiently.  The Cavs are off to a 2-0 start thanks to back to back 20+ point performances from Chilton.  Against St. Mary’s Annapolis, Chilton had 23 points and shot 4-6 from 3.  Chilton plays with a great pace and knows how to get to his spot.

Matthew McKenzie (Takoma Academy ’27) –  24.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2 spg, 1 bpg

McKenzie had a huge game in Takoma Academy’s opener against the Good Fellas, dropping 32 points on 9-16 shooting, 3-6 from 3, and 11-12 from the FT line.  Against the Warriors, McKenzie hit 4 threes and had 4 steals to help Takoma Academy get to 2-0.  No doubt one of the best 3pt shooters in the league.

Caleb Thomas (Spring Mills ’25) – 13.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 9.5 apg, 4.0 bpg

Coming all the way from West Virginia, Thomas and Spring Mills did not disappoint in their CHSL debut.  Spring Mills picked up wins over Good Counsel and Flint Hill with Thomas almost putting up back-to-back triple-doubles.  Against Good Counsel, Thomas finished with 12/10/9 and blocked 4 shots.  Against Flint Hill, Thomas had a 15/11/10 triple-double and also had 4 blocks.  Thomas has great size at 6’7 and is extremely active on both ends of the court.  Expect more triple-double alerts from Thomas this summer.
