With the 2025 Capitol Hoops Summer League coming to close Andrew Maria has proven to be one of the most dynamic players in the summer league and in the DMV area. The rising senior went on an absolute tear during league play leaving the opposition in shock and further proving that he has the ability to impact winning at the next level. The 6’6 wing was able to make it look easy at times getting to the basket with ease and proved to be unstoppable in the open floor having multiple 30-point games during Bethel Academy’s run in the league.

Maria went on to average 25.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists as he was able to lead Bethel Academy to a 5-3 record in summer league play and a signature win against a good Fairfax Christian team (6-0 at the time). Maria also earned Capitol Hoops All-Star honors for the second straight season and was named winner of the Dunk Contest as well.

This summer, Maria looked like a man on a mission every single game going at his opponents and using all parts of his skillset to help his team to be successful. As he continues to play for the Washington Warriors (Adidas 3SSB) for the rest of the AAU season Maria will continue to put colleges and scouts on notice and prove that he is amongst the best in an area loaded with talent.

Bethel Academy’s Andrew Maria collects some hardware at the Summer League, earning the league’s MVP honor. The senior wing had an impressive season, leading the league in scoring with 25.3 points per game, along with being the fourth leading rebounder, grabbing 10.2 boards a game.

“You know, it’s great to see my work pay off,” Maria said when discussing what MVP means to him. “My teammates and coaches put me in the place to be able to put up these numbers and I just went out every night and did what I could to try and help my team win the game.”

The key focus of Maria’s game this summer was his range and ability to be a three-level scorer. Maria’s league-high scoring effort was also consistently efficient, shooting on 61/31/65 percent shooting splits. The 6’6 wing made his name known in the Summer League with his ability to score from anywhere, evolving into an all-around offensive threat. While the offense was the most notable part of his game, Maria is still looking to improve in other ways ahead of his senior season.

“I want to continue to just improve on the defensive end and expand my range from three and being an all-around player,” Maria said.

The MVP showed flashes of his defense, averaging 1.7 steals and 0.7 blocks a night. Maria displayed the defensive talent multiple times, recording a season-high 5 steals and 3 blocks in different games. As a double-double machine, he grabbed 44 defensive rebounds, making up for 72 percent of his total rebounds.

With his focus on a polished and all-around skillset, Maria has delivered some of the most well-rounded performances. Maria closed out his regular season campaign with two wins over Severn and Fairfax Christian. In the outing against Severn, he recorded 31 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals on 66 percent shooting. He then followed up with 21 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks on 57 percent shooting to close out the season at 5-3, leading Bethel Academy to the playoffs.

Maria has already taken steps to improve his skillset for the collegiate level. With his senior season approaching, the MVP looks to capitalize on his summer success in the winter.
