Brandywine Boyz (Gwynn Park) vs McNamara kicked off the slate of games for June 2nd, as Gwynn Park defeated McNamara 76 – 67, for a much needed comeback and statement victory. The first half provided a see-saw battle as McNamara lived and died by the three on offense, shooting 6 – 17 from three, and 9 -13 from inside the arc. Gwynn Park’s offensive game plan was simple, as the ball was in the hands of Ty Bevins as frequently as possible. He added 19 points in the first half, scoring from all areas on the floor, as well as finding teammates in transition and through dribble penetration. It was a stalemate on the glass in the first half as both teams grabbed 18 in total. The score was tied eight times and had six lead changes during the first half but McNamara was able to lead for most of the half, as they converted on a few more three point shots, shooting at a 50% clip to hold onto a two point lead, 37 – 35 going into the break.
Ty Bevins kept his hot hand on offense as he and Gwynn Park controlled the second half, outscoring McNamara 41-30 in the second half. McNamara looked to find success attacking the rim more in the second half, but ultimately forced shots on 37% shooting, led to easy Gwynn Park baskets and a 17 – 8 run to open the second half. Ty Bevins scored in a plethora of ways as well in the second half, helping maintain the lead for Gwynn Park in crunch time. His final stat line was 41 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, on 16 of 22 from the field. Gwynn Park’s edge on the glass, and McNamara’s bad shot selection led to Gwynn Park leading by as many as 13, and a dominant second half for them, as they secured the win.
