Riverdale Baptist defeated The Brook (SpringBrook) in a nail biting win with a final score of 62-60.

‘24 guard Nate Wooden got off to a hot start, driving into the lane for physical layups and bringing tenacious energy on defense. ‘25 guard Jack Furman, who had a hot hand in the first half, scored a three at the 13:15 mark and scored a 2-ball at the 12:21 mark. The Brook (SpringBrook) responded with a jumper at the 12:00 mark. Their momentum continued after this. ‘25 guard Bryan Hinds Jr from The Brook (SpringBrook) scored a floater and ‘24 guard Elijah Sandy scored a tough layup to cut the lead down to 3. Dominic Carr was like windex the way he was cleaning the glass. He was dominant on the boards with 14 total rebounds and 9 of them being defensive, and contributed 8 points in the competition. ‘25 combo guard Roman Redder contributed 21 points in the competition for The Brook (SpringBrook), shooting an efficient 7-14 from the field and an impressive 6-9 from three. Riverdale took control in the last 5 minutes, shooting 42% from the field and 50 % from three. The score at the half was 36-27, Riverdale up. 

The Brook (Springbrook) came out with a different mindset in the second half. They scored the first bucket of the second half but Xavier Pickett, who contributed 17 points, scored two as he got to the rack once again. Roman Redder scored back-to-back threes off the bench and put The Brook (SpringBrook) within 7. Elijah Sandy scored an and-1 layup that put The Brook (SpringBrook) within 4, and within three once he completed the layup. The defensive strategy of The Brook’s (Springbrook) worked as Jack Furman cooled off in the second half and they were back in the game. However, Nate Wooden effectively got to the rim, scoring some physical buckets for Riverdale and contributing 11 points. 

The game was tied at 54 at the 3:25 mark. The Brook (SpringBrook) took their first lead (57-54) at the 2:10 mark with a three from ‘25 forward Jordan Garner. Xavier Pickett responded with a three which put them within 2. With less than a minute left in the game, Riverdale was up two (59-57). Roman Redder hit another three with 45 seconds to go which put The Brook (SpringBrook) up by 1 (60-59). Riverdale scored and went up 61-60 with 25.9 seconds to go. Riverdale pulled off the win 62-60 in a nailbiter. Both teams put forth a valiant effort, but as always only one team can win. Riverdale Baptist finished the game shooting 40% from the field and 36% from three while The Brook (Springbrook) finished the game shooting 38% from the field and 47% from three. 

Riverdale will take on Sandy Spring on Monday as they look to stay strong, and The Brook (Springbrook) will look to bounce back against Tech Prep on Sunday.
