Spalding faced off against the Cadets (Frederick) for an exciting unpredictable matchup. As the game went back and forth filled with competition and an impressive showcase of skills, Frederick earned a hard fought win as Spalding faced a tough 63-70 loss.

 

As the game began, Frederick brought the energy and intensity, hitting their shots early on as well as a consistent full court press.Spalding responded by intensifying their energy as well, turning the rather tranquil game into a fast paced quick matchup. Frederick used their shooting ability to try to find shots outside the paint, as Spalding worked on finishing strong, drawing the foul, Spalding struggling to make their shots fall. Frederick began using their height to their advantage, leading 18-8 as the half elapsed. 

 

Spalding stayed in the game, upping their momentum, forcing a significant amount of turnovers and starting to control the energy of the game. After struggling from an 8 point deficit, Spalding capitalized off of Frederick’s mistake to give them their first lead of the whole game at the half 35-34.

 

Contradictory to the first half, as the second half started off with Spalding hitting their shots early, keeping the momentum they had gained at the end of the first half. Spalding transitioned quickly and effectively, giving them a 41-34 lead a couple minutes in. As Frederick worked to stay composed and find their shot, Spalding worked to keep their lead, transitioning quickly and using their speed. 

 

Halfway through the second half, Spalding continued to lead, 46-39, Braxton Bogard (‘27 W) doing an impressive job of cleaning up team mistakes as well as dominating in the paint, Contributing to his 14 point, 8 reb game performance. 

 

Frederick duo David Dorsey(‘24 G) and Emonte Hill Jr. (‘25 G) fought to keep their teams energy up, increasing their pace to make it a 3 point game (54-51) with around 6 minutes left. Spalding fought to keep their lead as both teams began to foul and play physically, making it a one point game, 59-58 with 4 minutes left. As the clock winds down, Frederick remains composed and determined, resulting in a thrilling victory over Spalding, a deserving 70-63 win.
