Recap

by Jonathan Totten

John Carroll defeated the Warriors (Sherwood) in dominant fashion with a final score of 68-36.

John Carroll had no hesitation shooting the three right out the gate. They shot 21 three pointers in the first half, only making 5 of them. Both teams struggled from the field the first couple of minutes, with Sherwood being the first team to score a jumper around the 12 minute mark. Warriors (Sherwood) guard Nick Rampersaud scored 6 points in the first half and went 2-3 from the 3-point line, which helped the Warriors lead John Carroll for 7 minutes. Warriors guard Micah Webb was also a reliable scorer for Sherwood in the first half, scoring 9 points and going 5-6 from the free throw line. With 2 three pointers from ‘26 guard Aidan Able, John Carroll had the lead with 8:32 seconds to go in the first. Able made 3 three pointers in the first half and had 17 first half points to go along with it. With 4 minutes left in the first half, it was clear that John Carroll was taking over, due in large part to their 12-0 scoring run caused by the Warriors’ 12 first half turnovers. A few three pointers fell for John Carroll in the later minutes of the second half and John Carroll led at the half 37-21.

Aidan Able again hit a three within the first minute of the second half, giving John Carroll a 19 point lead. John Carroll became more aggressive on the boards, out rebounding the Warriors (Sherwood) 54-37.  This didn’t work in the Warriors’ favor as outside shots didn’t fall in the second half. The Warriors’ shooting worsened in the second half, shooting 27% from the field in the first half to 22% in the second half and 18% from the 3 to 0% in the second half. The Warriors’ shooting performance is what caused them to trail by 20 or more all of the 2nd half. Well, that and John Carroll scoring 21 points off of their 8 second half turnovers. John Carroll’s guard Nick Smith (‘27) got into the mix as he scored 12 points in the second half on 5-8 shooting from the field. John Carroll’s shooting from the field improved as they went from shooting 36% in the first half to 40% in the second.  This helped them eclipse a 30 point lead with 2 minutes left in the half. The final score was 68-36, John Carroll’s victory.

John Carroll will look to stay dominant against Greenbelt (Eleanor Roosevelt) later today, and The (Warriors) Sherwood will look to bounce back against Takoma Academy tomorrow morning at Dematha.
