Annapolis Area Christian School improved to 5-0 tonight as they defeated St. Mary’s Annapolis with a final score of 63-49.
‘24 forward Luke Wiliams scored the first two buckets for St. Mary’s, getting them off to a decent start. On the other hand, AACS got off to an excellent start, gaining a 9 point lead at the 11:28 mark. St. Mary’s got themselves another bucket at the 10:30 mark but AACS responded with a layup ten seconds later. St. Mary’s caught some momentum with 8 minutes left in the first half. AACS guard Eli Croskey (‘25) scored 9 points in the first half on 3-6 shooting. Both teams were evenly matched in aggression with St. Mary’s scoring 16 points in the paint and AACS scoring 18 points in the paint. St. Mary’s cut the lead down to 4 with 3:30 left with a 3-pointer from ‘24 shooting guard Liam Barney. With 30 seconds left in the half, AACS guard Justin Chandler hit a three to put them up by 11. The score at the half was 33-22, AACS up.
Less than 2 minutes into the second half , AACS took a commanding 14 point lead. AACS forward Donte Holmes (‘24) got into a rhythm, scoring 15 points in the second half. St. Mary’s Annapolis cut the lead down to 6 at the 9:39 mark but missed 7 shots in a row after and AACS’s lead expanded to 18 at the 6:14 mark. AACS moved the ball around great which allowed for open looks, shooting 42% from the field in the second half. St. Mary’s Annapolis struggled from three, shooting 14%. The final score was 63-49, AACS’s victory.
AACS will look to continue their winning streak against Takoma Academy, while St. Mary’s Annapolis will look to get their first win under their belt against RM.
