Tenley Tigers (Jackson Reed) vs R.W.E Lions (Largo)

The Tenley Tigers (Jackson Reed) defeated R.W.E. Lions (Largo) soundly, by a score of 66-36, to begin the slate of games for June 13th. In the first half and for pretty much the entirety of the game, Largo only found scoring from their best player, Cam Ward. The rising junior tallied 15 of Largo’s 20 first half points going 5-10 from the field while his teammates shot just 2-18 themselves. Jackson Reed used their size advantage to play an inside – out style of play on the offensive end, through their big men Emanuel Okitonodo and Jayden Fort. The pair did most of their scoring from the block shooting 8-11 combined, and finding open shooters when Largo had to double. Largo’s guards failed to put pressure on the defense through the dribble – drive, and forced up bad looks, compared to Jackson Reed’s ability to attack Largo’s size and find the open man as they totaled 13 assists in the first half. Jackson Reed led by as many as 14 in the first half, and a couple of triples from Cam Ward cut the lead to just eight, Jackson Reed found an open shooter to lead by 11 at the break. 

The second half proved to be more of the same, as Largo failed to play catch up. Jackson Reed opened up their lead with consistent shooting from deep, and capitalizing off of Largo’s turnovers. Largo tried mixing their defenses up, but the lead was too large, and Jackson Reed continued to dominate in the post, finishing the game out rebounding Largo, 45-25. Guard Lucas Sekasi earned standout player honors in today’s contest as he finished with 14 points,10 assists, and 9 rebounds, just one board shy of a triple double today. 

An impressive win for Jackson Reed today, as they look to finish up their regular season next week against Potomac School and DeMatha. Sitting at 7-1, these final two games will be key for the tigers to keep their momentum come playoffs.
