The Warriors (Sherwood) win nail biter against Potomac School 64-61.
Both teams traded buckets back and forth the first five minutes of the game. The Warriors (Sherwood) had the lead 10-9 with ten minutes left to play in the half. Potomac guard Akim Iscandari (‘26) was a key contributor on offense, contributing 16 points in the competition. On the Warriors end, guard Evin Thompson contributed 17 points and collected 12 rebounds in the competition. With four minutes left to play in the first, the game was tied at 19 as both teams proved they could shoot and were disciplined as ball movement was a key component in scoring points. The game was very close with the Warriors leading 26-25 at the half.
Within two minutes of play in the second half, Potomac gained a six point lead but failed to hit open shots for a couple of minutes and the Warriors came within two points of them. As Akim Iscandari cooled off, Evin Thompson continued to create open shots for himself, keeping the Warriors in the game. With both teams gaining momentum and trading buckets, the game was tied at 45 with nine minutes left to play in the game. Less than a minute later, the Warriors took a 51-45 lead over Potomac. Potomac hadn’t scored a point in three minutes and the Warriors had a 12 point lead with six minutes left to play. However, two quick buckets put Potomac within seven. With two minutes to go in the game, the Warriors led 62-57. Potomac scored a couple more buckets and the Warriors led them 64-61 with three seconds left to play in the game. The Warriors had the ball on the inbound but Potomac gained possession with two seconds left with a steal from Akiim Iscandari. Potomac inbounded the ball and got a shot off but the Warriors closed off on the shot successfully and went on to win the nail-biter 64-61.
