The Mustangs’ (Meade) dominant second half performance key to 57-32 victory over AACS. 

Both teams came out with a full-court press, forcing turnovers from each other with the Mustangs scoring seven points off AACS turnovers and AACS scoring five points off Mustang turnovers. Both teams played at their own pace, using the full 30 seconds on the shot clock to score. AACS had a 10 point lead with seven minutes to go in the half as shots were falling, going 8-24 from the field in the first. However, both teams were even in aggression scoring 12 points in the paint each. Although AACS’s full-court press didn’t force any turnovers out of the Mustangs in the later minutes, it never allowed the Mustangs to find a rhythm, going many plays without scoring. The game was tied at 18 with 1:30 to go but the Mustangs found a spark and gained a seven point lead at the half. The score at the half 25-18.

The Mustangs (Meade) increased their lead to twelve in less than two minutes of play in the second half. Both teams struggled in offensive rebounding, making it hard for second chance points to be scored. The Mustangs were still holding on to their seven point lead with ten minutes left to play in the game. It’s also worth noting how AACS blew some plays trying to be fancy. Instead of laying the ball up for two, they missed a couple of two points because they blew dunks that weren’t necessary to go for. In addition, AACS shot horribly from the field in the second half, going 2-28. With seven minutes left to play, the Mustangs led 43-29 as they went 15-35 from the field in the second half. The Mustangs kept their foot on the gas and increased their lead to 19 with four minutes left to play. With the little time the Mustangs had left, their lead continued to increase and they won the game 57-32. 

AACS will face Grace Brethren next Monday as they look for their fifth win, while the Mustangs finished the season 4-6 and ended on a good note, giving AACS their first loss.
