Recap

By Daruis Gordon

Coming into the game, all eyes were on Cristian Proctor, who had an impressive showing the previous day with 27 points and 9 rebounds on 57 percent shooting. The big question was whether he could keep his hot hand going.

Both teams came out strong defensively, making it difficult for either side to find an early offensive rhythm. As the first half progressed, the offensive struggles continued, with DeMatha holding a narrow 14–10 lead with 5:28 left in the half. However, Clinton Grace managed to shift the momentum in their favor late in the half, going into the break with a 5-point lead.

J’lon Lyons led the charge for Clinton Grace, scoring 12 points in the first half. His ability to stay confident, attack the rim, and take smart shots was a major reason for their lead. On the other side, Proctor had a quiet half, shooting just 1-for-8 from the field. Clinton Grace’s physical defense and relentless pace set the tone early.

In the second half, Clinton Grace came out firing. Their ball movement and up-tempo style made it difficult for DeMatha to get anything going offensively. Khalib Norcome did an excellent job defending Proctor, making it tough for him to find open looks or get into rhythm. With 9:13 remaining, Clinton Grace was still in control, holding DeMatha to just 20 points.

DeMatha began to show some life around the 7:25 mark, cutting the lead to eight points. They improved on defense and made it harder for Clinton Grace to score, but still struggled to find consistency on the offensive end. With 4:29 left in the game, it was clear that someone needed to step up for DeMatha if they were going to complete the comeback.

Despite showing heart and narrowing the deficit to eight points with 1:47 remaining, DeMatha just couldn’t get over the hump. They got to the free-throw line but failed to capitalize on their chances. Every time they closed the gap, Clinton Grace answered with a key play or defensive stop.

Clinton Grace ultimately held on for a 56–49 win, controlling the game from start to finish. Their physical play and defensive pressure stifled DeMatha, who shot just 30 percent from the field and 19 percent from three.
