These are the teams that stood out during day three of the summer league
Takoma Academy: This gritty Takoma Academy team is a personification of DMV grit. Unheralded players that just play with heart and tenacity. Teams that play with nothing to lose or prove are dangerous and can compete with anybody on the floor. Players such as Rajaun Grey, Malcolm Day, and Micah Samuels collectively played similar to teams from the past like the 2005 Detroit Pistons and the grit and grind era Memphis Grizzlies. Definitely a team that will be making some noise during the summer turning some heads.
Landon School: Never judge a book by its cover is the phrase that represents this bears squad for the summer league. From afar the IAC school may not look too intimidating, However until they step on the floor it’s a whole other personality. The team has shown that they are willing to take on any challenges and show their sneaky athleticism and not bend to anybody applying the pressure to them. Will definitely be a dark horse team to watch for during the course of the summer.
Potomac School: The panthers are an interesting team to watch for this summer. This team so far looks like they have a great balance of players that know their strengths and that play within themselves. Star player Khalil Williams leads this squad as one of the most intriguing players in the summer league with his bouncy athleticism definitely makes this Potomac squad a super competitive team this summer.
Jackson Reed: The school formerly known as Wilson may have a new name, but by watching them you can tell that they are still one of the best schools in the area. The Tigers still use their athletic prowess to immediate teams and wear them out as well. Jackson Reed shows that they are going to be one of the tougher teams to beat this summer.
Dematha: The new look Dematha Stags made their debut on Monday with newly appointed Mike G. Jones III at the helm of the program. With a program having a new coach and a loss of top prospect AJ Swinton to Oak Hill, one would think the Stags are in a summer of transformation and wouldn’t be as competitive. That’s not the case with this squad whatever, they may look different but this squad still has the talent to show out this summer like the teams of its past. Will be interesting to watch how they grow and compete for a league title.
Other Honorable Mention day 3 teams in the league to look out for: Gonzaga, Severn, Hayfield, St. Mary’s Annapolis, Gathersbrug.
