This summer one of the more interesting teams that is taking the league by storm is Takoma Academy. The small private school from Takoma Park, MD is applying the pressure this year at the Capitol Summer League. Unlike recent summers, the team is currently undefeated in league play. The seven-day Adventist school has been led by star players Malcolm Day, Rejaun Grey, and Jhace Johnson. “Our goal is to really make a name for ourselves and show what we can do on the court”, said 2023 guard Malcolm Day. Making a name for themselves and making a statement to the DMV by sitting in second place is one way to put the league and area on notice.
The high energy and gritty team has shown it has played with the motivation to carry this runaway train momentum into the live period and the looming regular season. “We like to work hard,” said Rejaun Gray. The passion to have a strong work ethic runs deep with this team that the players describe as a big family. “They are playing together with a couple of new additions, they are working together and they want it”, said head coach David Credle. Credle also mentions that this Takoma Academy team is different from years past because of the willingness to reach one goal as a collective. With a team playing for each other with one goal is to win. It will be hard for other teams to put the brakes on this maroon engine that could.
