As Capitol Hoops Summer League continues on, Bullis has shown remarkable talent and playing capability against fierce competition within the early weeks of play. With their currently undefeated record (9-0), Bullis is approaching a possibly perfect record for the regular season, giving them a very good chance of earning the top seed in the playoffs. Bullis has shined both offensively and defensively, dominating in every aspect of the game.
Bullis’ rising seniors have shown impressive leadership and results on the court, in terms of effective communication, accuracy in their shots and dominance on defense, as well as energy on and off the court. Bullis senior guard Tyler Boston expresses how his mindset has been to “play hard, create opportunities for teammates and myself, and most importantly be a winner. I think our team’s chemistry has allowed us to be this good. We have a lot of personalities that just interlock and it shows on the floor.”
With 4 seniors and a loaded ‘25 class as well, Bullis has been a team to watch this summer, bringing in fierce talent and head turning plays each game. Apart from Bullis’ seniors dominating and leading the team, Bullis’ Adrien Stevens (‘25) has impressed many this summer, averaging 12 points per game and earning a C-RAM score of 12.6, which ranks fourth in the CHSL (Cerebro Sports).
Besides Bullis’ clean record, they have also shown their ability to have extremely solid wins. Of the first 9 games, the team showed to have a dominating scoring capability, winning 7 of the 9 games by more than a 20 point difference. Boston and his teammates “made it a goal to hold teams under 50 points. Communicating on the floor is a major thing that has been going around in the huddle from Coach Kelley. We’ve been getting more and more efficient offensively from game to game so we know we will score the basketball.”
With the team under the guidance of head coach Bruce Kelley, some of Bullis’ most impressive wins thus far include an 82-26 win against Warriors (Sherwood), and an 84-44 win against R.W.E Lions (Largo). Wins also include their highly anticipated game against elite team DeMatha, where Bullis won 61-58 despite the game coming down to the final seconds of the matchup.
Bullis currently sits at #1 in team standings with an impressive 246 overall point differential as they continue on in Capitol Hoops Summer League. Approaching playoffs, Tyler Boston and Bullis “know the next game is not guaranteed. So we’ll take it one game at a time like we have always been doing. Our record reflects on our seeding but we don’t need a record to tell us how good we are. We have confidence within ourselves to perform once the playoffs come around.” Within the upcoming weeks, they will look to carry this momentum into a deep playoff run after their extremely impressive start to the 2023 summer season.
