Our Capitol Hoops Summer League Player of the Week is Gabe Colston, and the honorable mentions are Masyn Miller, Jordan Fox, Lane Mahan, Blake Fitzgerald, and Obi Mensah.

Player of the Week: Gabe Colston – JFK (Kennedy)

Gabe Colston is a 6’4” guard in the Class of 2027 who plays for Team Takeover in AAU. Gabe has had one heck of a week, scoring 131 points across four games. In Gabe’s third year of Summer League, he is averaging 32.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Colston’s strength as a shooter is his quick release, which makes him hard to defend. On the defensive end, he uses his quick feet, allowing him to also be a premier defender. This honor will add to the already full trophy case of awards and honors he has earned, including Montgomery County Player of the Year, 2nd Team Maryland All-State, and 4th Team All-Met. These awards were earned during a great junior season in which he averaged 25 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block per game. So far, he has shown that he will continue to add more awards to his trophy case.

“When the ball first hit my hands and when it hit the net, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m hot. I’m going to keep on shooting,’” Gabe said when asked what gives him the confidence to shoot the ball with such consistency.

Masyn Miller – Heritage Pride

Masyn Miller is a 6’4” guard in the Class of 2027 who plays for D1SA in AAU. Masyn has scored 93 points across three games this week. Miller’s strength is being a talented shot-maker who can make shots from deep. Overall, he is averaging 25.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. This week alone, he is averaging 31 points. Masyn is shooting 56% from the field and 26% from 3-point range. Miller is putting himself in the conversation as one of the better players this summer, so there is a lot more in store for this young guard.

Jordan Fox – Purple Storm (Cardozo)

Jordan Fox is a 6’2” guard in the Class of 2028. Jordan has led Cardozo to three consecutive wins, and in all of those games, he scored more than 24 points. Jordan’s recent win and highlight game came against Northwest. Jordan had 34 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. On top of that, Jordan was incredibly efficient, shooting 57% from the field. Jordan is a fantastic three-level scorer, getting it done in the paint, on the perimeter, and beyond the arc. Jordan has led the Purple Storm to a 3-1 record, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.

Lane Mahan – Tenley Tigers (Jackson-Reed)

Lane Mahan is a 6’4” forward in the Class of 2027. The Tigers continue to defeat talented teams like DeMatha and Clinton Grace, and Lane is one of the main reasons why. Lane’s ability to effectively guard opponents who are often taller than him and score on all three levels makes him stand out. During the Tenley Tigers’ most recent win against an extremely talented Clinton Grace team, Lane had 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals. If Lane continues to play at this high level, he will remain a frontrunner for the Capitol Hoops Summer League MVP award.

Blake Fitzgerald – Flint Hill

Blake Fitzgerald is a 6’8” forward in the Class of 2028. This week, Blake Fitzgerald led Flint Hill to a 73-65 win against the former Maryland state champion, Blake. In that game, Blake Fitzgerald recorded a double-double, finishing with 25 points and an astounding 15 rebounds. Blake’s ability to block shots while also being a weapon offensively in the paint makes him an incredibly versatile player. Flint Hill is 3-0 and will continue to be a dominant force in the CHSL with Blake playing the way he is.

Obi Mensah – Mustangs (Meade)

Obi Mensah is a 6’0” guard who plays AAU for Mid Atlantic Select. Obi is a great perimeter scorer who is very versatile in that he can make a shot from anywhere. Obi also plays with great pace and brings a ton of energy and effort to the court. Mensah made the list with two consecutive 20-point games. First, in a 75-67 loss to Concordia Prep on Tuesday, May 26, he had 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. He followed that up on Wednesday in a 75-67 loss to Wootton with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Every game for Obi seems to get better and better, so the future is bright for this senior.
