St. Mary’s Ryken vs South Lakes

The South Lakes vs St. Mary’s Ryken matchup was a hard fought, valiant game for Capitol Hoops Summer League. The game was relatively close for both halves, South Lakes maintaining a lead the entire game, and pulling out a victory, 69-57.

 

As the game started, both teams brought their energy and physicality to the court. Both teams tried to find their groove and their spot outside the paint, as St. Mary’s Ryken gave up a couple team fouls early on as South Lakes emphasized driving to the rim against their man to man defense. With South Lakes getting active defensively in a zone defense, St. Mary’s Ryken worked on passing around the ball effectively and staying composed despite both teams playing very physical.

 

As the half continued, South Lakes’ Sol Vita (‘25) used his athleticism and finishing capability to lead his team to maintain their lead against St. Mary’s Ryken throughout the entire half. With St. Mary’s Ryken still staying in the game and increasing the momentum with a couple minutes left, South Lakes still held onto their lead at the half, 32-27.

 

With the second half underway, both teams entered the half ready to battle both offensively and defensively. St. Mary’s Ryken putting emphasis on their pace of the game and trying to find their shot, South Lakes worked to capitalize outside of the paint, still leading 48-37 with around 10 minutes remaining in the half. 

 

As both teams worked to finish strong at the rim and battle for any loose balls, St. Mary Ryken’s Khalid Norcome (‘25) uses his dominating size to collect some rebounds and second opportunity points to work to gain some momentum for his team as South Lakes still led 54-43 with around 5 minutes left. 

 

As the second half clock ticked down, both teams incorporated a full court press and South Lakes started to dominate in terms of turnovers and rebounds, St. Mary’s Ryken still struggling to find their shot. The hard fought game resulted in a 57-69 loss for St. Mary’s Ryken, and a well earned victory for South Lakes.
