As Capitol Hoops Summer League at DeMatha continued on, Grace Brethren and South Lakes matched up for an impressive battle on the court. Grace Brethren sparked a lead early on in the game, and stayed consistent for a solid 67-42 victory.

 

As the first half began, both Grace Brethren and South Lakes were searching for the energy. Grace Brethren focused on sharing the ball and connecting passes, as South Lakes prioritized passing and cutting towards the basket. Grace Brethren created a small lead at first, both teams struggling to find their shot and get points on the board.

 

South Lakes found themselves in early foul trouble, collecting 6 team fouls before halfway through the first half. As the game’s physicality intensified, Grace Brethren also gave up a significant amount of team fouls, as they stabilized their lead as the clock ticked down. Grace Brethren increased their energy, gaining some momentum, as all players worked to find the open lane to drive to the rim for some consistent layups. As the half came to an end, Grace Brethren continued to capitalize, and after incorporating a full court press in the final minutes, lead at the half 31-15.

 

With the second half underway, both teams continued to work to try and find their groove and energy within the matchup. South Lakes worked to drive, drawing a couple fouls for a few quick points to help their deficit. Grace Brethren maximized their intensity on defense, Ky Panda-Massey(‘24) leading his team with effort and valiancy in the paint, despite his size compared to South Lakes centers.

 

As the second half closed down, South Lakes continued to struggle to find their shot, as well as trying to prevent giving up fouls. Noah Frayer (‘24) had a couple strong finishes to stabilize his team’s lead despite an ankle injury early in the game. As both teams continue to compete and fight for all rebounds and loose balls, Grace brethren pulls out an impressive well earned 67-42 win.
