Fairfax Christian vs Bruins (Broadneck)

Fairfax Christian’s defensive strategy was too much for the Bruins (Broadneck) to handle as the Bruins went down 70-40. 

Fairfax came out with a full-court press in the first half that stomped the Bruins (Broadneck) and forced 15 turnovers. They scored 22 points off of the Bruins turnovers. Fairfax took a commanding 11-2 lead at the 13:00 mark. However, the Bruins completed some open looks and scored 14 points with 6 minutes remaining. The score was 28-16 at the 4:30 mark. Fairfax ran the score up due to their ability to shoot from the three, going 63% from beyond the arc. Additionally, forward Elijah Adegbenro (‘24) and guard Doyle Brown (‘24) contributed 17 points on 7-10 shooting and 19 points on 6-9 shooting in the first half respectively. The Bruins were missing a key scorer as they had no one who could take control of the game. Fairfax claimed a 20 point lead early in the game as their press and shooting were too much for the Bruins to handle. Fairfax took a comfortable lead going into halftime with a score of 46-18. 

Less than three minutes into the second half, Fairfax took a 31 point lead. Although the Bruins had much more size, Fairfax’s athleticism showed in the second half with some impressive dunks from forward Elijah Adegbenro. The Bruins fought harder in the second half as they scored more points in the second than they did in the first with 16 being scored in the first half and 24 being scored in the second, but ultimately Fairfax did a lot of damage in the first half that was irreversible. Fairfax went on to win the game 70-40. 

While the Bruins (Broadneck) finished their season 0-9, they will regroup in hopes of being a more competitive team in the Capitol hoops summer league next year. On the other hand, Fairfax will look to continue their dominant play against Good counsel tomorrow night.
