McNamara vs Sandy Spring

McNamara finished the regular season strong with a convincing win against Sandy Spring, 91-69.

Martin Somerville (‘24, G) got the scoring going for McNamara with a layup off the opening tip, but Sandy Spring’s Darrion Sardo (‘25, G) responded with a corner three on the ensuing possession. But, McNamara continued its fast start, hitting three consecutive shots from beyond the arc to give it an early double-digit lead.

Sandy Spring was able to respond thanks to point guard Jacob Cox (‘25). Cox looked for his shot early, going 3-of-3 from the field and hitting both of his attempts from three. Teammate Jake Tringone (‘24, F) established himself on the interior, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the first half. 

Sandy Spring’s tandem of Cox and Tringone’s efforts were not enough to take the lead, though, as Jordan Taylor (‘27, F) hit a couple of layups to end the half and extended McNamara’s lead to seven. 

McNamara took control to start the second half with a three from Jaren Curtis (‘25, G). Prince-Alexander Moody (‘26, G) followed up with a couple of threes of his own; He finished with 15 points. As a team, McNamara shot 45.5 percent from three and 58.3 percent from the field. 

Jacob Cox tried to keep Sandy Spring a float with his three-point shooting, but McNamara’s full-court pressure was too much for Sandy Spring. McNamara forced 20 turnovers — a big disparity in the game that helped it take a double-digit lead. Sandy Spring was unable to respond, giving McNamara a win in their finale.

Sandy Spring will look to bounce back against Brandywine Boyz on Wednesday while McNamara finished its regular season with an 8-2 record, sitting at third in the CHSL playoff standings.
