Severn vs Lanham Christian

Severn scored the first two buckets to get the game started but the game was tied at 4 at the 12:34 mark. Severn then took a 7-4 lead at the 11:54 mark. Guard Diego Joy (‘26) hit a three to give Lanham an 8-7 lead but Severn responded with a three the very next play to take a 10-8 lead. With 8 minutes remaining, Diego Joy tied the game at 10 with a layup. He had 15 this half. Jayden Thomas (G,‘24) responded with a three the next play to put Severn up three but Lanham hit another three to tie the game again at 13. 

With six minutes remaining, Lanham hit a three to give them a 17-13 lead, then Diego Joy hit a three to give Lanham a 20-15 lead with 5 minutes remaining. Severn got into foul trouble early as they put Lanham in the bonus with a little over 4 minutes remaining in the first. In the last 3 minutes of the half, Lanham put up a half court press in hopes of slowing down Severn’s play but Jayden Thomas found another three once the ball made it past half court. Diego Joy once again got off a tough three with 20 seconds remaining to give Lanham a 35-22 lead heading into the half. 

Lanham received possession at the start of the second half and Diego Joy picked up where he left off, hitting a three right out the gate. Severn guard Kingston Price (‘24) responded with a 2-ball the next play. Three minutes into the game, Lanham led Severn 43-32. However, Severn cut the lead down to 11 after making the next two threes they shot. Severn’s shooting in the later minutes is what derailed them and kept them behind all of the second half. With three minutes left in the game, Lanham led Severn 59-43. However, Severn cut the lead down to 10 at the 2:24 mark after completing some physical layups. Severn’s fouling got them into trouble again, burying them into a 14 point deficit. Lanham won the game 65-51.

Lanham finished their regular season 6-4 and will be competing in this year’s CHSL playoffs. Meanwhile, Severn faces RM tomorrow night at Dematha but do not qualify for the playoffs as their record is currently 3-6.
