Good Counsel started out hot, getting to the basket anytime they wanted. Shooting guard Justin Bumbray (‘24) was at the core of Good Counsel as he finished the game with 15 points and earned player of the game honors. Flint Hill established their presence down low with big man Quin Gorman (‘24) who had 8 points and was active on the boards. At the halfway mark, Good counsel had an 18-17 lead. Buckets were traded back and forth in the half, making it a very competitive game. Flint Hill gained a 32-31 lead with 2 minutes left after a three from 2-guard Jack Loyd (‘25). Another shot from Loyd, a 2-ball this time, put Flint Hill up 34-31. Good Counsel guard Neiko Mundey responded with a three to tie the game at 34 with 30 seconds left. Flint Hill scored a 2 again to put them up 36-32 going into the half.
With less than two minutes of action, Flint Hill still had their lead but it wasn’t a comfortable one. The score was 40-39. Good Counsel’s chemistry on the court showed this half as they found one another either on the cut, on the fast break, or on a pop out three. They were able to jump to a 49-43 lead with a little over 11 minutes to go. They then increased their lead to ten with a score of 60-50 with 8 minutes left after a three from guard Les Johnson (‘24). Flint Hill quickly tied the game at 60 right at the 6:00 mark. Good Counsel had a 68-63 lead with 2 minutes left in the game. Good Counsel won the game 72-70 as they led for the duration of the half and held onto their lead.
