Recap

By: Darius Gordon

The third game of the day featured Potomac (VA) taking on St. Charles (MD). With both teams lacking a true big man, this matchup came down to speed, execution, and toughness. Early on, neither team found much rhythm offensively, but Potomac managed to grab a 3-point lead with 9:02 left in the first half.

Potomac’s No. 13, Kong Tawanga, was a standout early, consistently attacking the rim and drawing fouls. With 6:41 remaining in the half, Potomac had extended its lead to 10 points, largely due to its ability to run clean sets and find high-percentage shots.

As the first half came to a close, Potomac maintained an 11-point lead by continuing to get to the free-throw line and capitalizing on St. Charles’ defensive lapses. Impressively, Potomac had drawn 16 fouls by halftime. Amani Asare led all scorers at the break with 10 points, going perfect from the free-throw line.

The second half saw more of the same, with Potomac holding a 12-point lead as St. Charles struggled to convert open layups. With 10:10 left, No. 4 Dominic Mack hit back-to-back three-pointers to help Potomac hold firm. Mack stood out in the second half for his perimeter shooting and ability to get to the line.

With 6:12 remaining, Potomac held a commanding 19-point lead. Despite the deficit, St. Charles showed heart, improving defensively and earning trips to the line. However, with 3:45 left, Amani Asare knocked down a three-pointer to stretch the lead back to 20, sealing the game.

Potomac (VA) secured the win with a final score of 62–48. While St. Charles came up short, their effort and determination stood out and reflected well on their coaching staff.

Notable Performers:

  • Dominic Mack (Potomac): 17 points, 2 blocks, 1 steal

  • Amani Asare (Potomac): 17 points, 4 assists, 2 blocks
