Good Counsel and St Stephen’s St Agnes’ highlighted day eight of CHSL at Annapolis Area Christian School. The two undefeated squads swapped leads four times, but the Falcons would top the Saints in the final 75 seconds for a 53-52 victory.
The matchup was back and forth from the beginning, with the Falcons took a brisk 6-1 lead but SSSA responded with seven points of their own to regain it. The Saints pulled out on top of the first 16 minutes, 24-21 — Mark Stafford had 11 of them.
Stafford, a 2026 guard, averaged 15 points per game coming into the machup. The Falcons upped their guard from there, and Stafford wouldn’t score again in the matchup.
Good Counsel was highlighted by 2027 guard Israel Tchoubfong who finished with 17 points. Standing at 6’6, the guard and forward went 5-11 from the field, attacking the rim, and 7-13 at the free throw line.
The Saints held onto their lead for 14:46 in the second half. The falcons took the lead off a free Tchoubfong, nonetheless, and that one point was enough.
St Stephens St Agnes called two separate timeouts to gather a plan, but were shut down by rebounds and blocks from the Falcons. The Saints also fouled twice to send Tchoubfong back to the line, where he missed.
The Falcons improve to 3-0, earning a win on day one of four straight game days for the squad. The Saints, picking up their first loss, won’t play again until June 2nd.
