DeMatha vs Mt. Zion

In a highly anticipated game, Dematha outlasts Mt. Zion with a final score of 64-53. 

In a very physical and fast paced game, both teams were out and running early.  Dematha was able to capitalize first as Kade Sebastian (‘25, G) got a couple of easy transition layups. Malcolm Thomas (‘24, F) also stepped in with a couple of big blocks for Dematha.  

Guards Hassan Dorman (‘24, G) and Logan Suber (‘24,G) were able to off-set Dematha’s signature full court pressure.  Suber had a nice layup off a steal and a tough and-1 to get it going for Mt. Zion. Hassan Dorman had a couple of nice layups of his own and a corner jump shot, which brought Mt. Zion back in the game. 

AJ McClary (‘24, G) and Jacob Wallace (‘25, G) handled much of the ball handling duties for Dematha.  Dematha’s backcourt duo combined for ten first half points, which gave Dematha the lead for the entirety of the first half. However, a late offensive rebound and putback by Ke’Mari Pointer (‘26, G) gave Mt. Zion some momentum going into the second half down 31-29. 

Bobby Montgomery (‘25, G) opened the half with a three-pointer to give Mt. Zion the lead, but a couple of buckets for Malcolm Thomas gave DeMatha the lead right back.  A euro layup by Josiah Massaquoi (‘25, F) in transition gave Dematha a seven-point lead with six minutes left. 

Down the stretch Mt. Zion went to Hassan Dorman. Dorman had a couple of tough buckets off the dribble, and finished the game with 19 points. But Jacob Wallace closed the game out with transition baskets and a clutch three for DeMatha. Wallace ended the game with 15 points on efficient shooting. 

Mt. Zion has another touch matchup Thursday as they play the undefeated Tenley Tigers.  DeMatha also plays Thursday against Greenbelt (Eleanor Roosevelt).
