Dematha and Lanham Christian matched up for Capitol Hoops Summer League for a dominating showcase of talent. The game resulted in a dominating performance by Dematha and a huge victory, 99-40.

As the game began, Lanham Christian got a quick layup off the tipoff to help them gain a little momentum in the early minutes of the game. Dematha responded to this energy with an intense full court press, immediately switching the game around. This led Dematha to begin to completely take over in all aspects of the game.

As Lanham struggled to find their shot, AJ McClary (‘24 G) created plays and gained energy for his team, charging Dematha forward to a  29-14 lead with around 6 minutes left in the first half.

Lanham Christian fought resiliently to keep their team in the game, getting more physical and trying to compete with Dematha’s size and fast transitioning. Despite incorporating a full court press with less than three minutes to go, Lanham Christian could not seem to find their shot. Dematha capitalized off these missed shots and mistakes to gain a solid 49-23 lead at the half.

As the second half elapsed, Dematha amped up the energy to create a massive point gap. With momentum led by Jamaal McKnight Jr. (‘27) and AJ McClary (‘24 G), Dematha found their groove and took advantage of it, resulting in an impressive 75-25 lead halfway through the second half.

As the game progressed, Lanham Christian struggled to find an open shot or remained composed under Dematha’s powerful press and bigger size. With Lanham Christian frustrated and Dematha managing the game both offensively and defensively, Lanham faces a tough loss as Dematha puts up a stellar performance and a 99-40 victory.
