DeMatha moves to 4-0 with a dominant second half against Brandywine Boyz, 77-58.
Ty Bevins (‘24, G) came out aggressive, scoring the first five points for Brandywine Boyz. DeMatha quickly adjusted by doubling teaming Bevins, forcing Tony Pope (‘24, G) to take control of all the ball handling duties for Brandywine. Pope is more undersized guard but has a good handle and uses his quickness to find his shot. Pope scored 15 first half points, making 4 threes.
After Brandywine’s early lead, DeMatha ramped up the pressure. DeMatha was able to force some turnovers, allowing AJ McClary (‘24, G) to get out in transition. But DeMatha’s forwards led the way as Cole Bowser (‘25, F) and Charles Thomas (‘25, F) dominated inside, combining for 17 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.
DeMatha’s size and quickness allowed them to take a 32-28 lead into halftime. DeMatha continued to speed up Brandywine’s guards, jumping out to an 8-0 run led by Cole Bowser. Brandywine was able to hang around as Bevins stepped up offensively and Demarco Panell (‘24, F) was big on the glass, finishing with 13 rebounds.
However, Brandywine’s efforts weren’t enough as DeMatha pulled away. Cade Walton (‘25, F) shined for DeMatha, scoring 8 second half points. And Kade Sebastian (‘25, G) had an and-1 making it a 20-point lead with 4:30 left for DeMatha. DeMatha closed out the victory.
DeMatha has a big challenge ahead, facing Bullis on Friday. While Brandywine will look to get back to their winning ways this Friday against McNamara.
