Landon vs Bruins (Broadneck)

May 21st marked the kick-off of the 2023 Capitol Hoops Summer League campaign with Landon defeating the Bruins (Broadneck) in dominant fashion with a final score of 98-42.

First game rust was evident with both teams getting in foul trouble early in the first half. Three minutes into the first half, the Bruins committed a total of seven team fouls, allowing Landon to attempt 18 free throws. On the other hand, the Bruins also had their share of free throws in the half, attempting 12 of their own. Both teams struggled at the line, with neither team eclipsing the 60% mark. 

Led by the duo of Joseph Coleman and Ari Hobson with 13 and 12 points respectively, Landon found themselves able to take a commanding lead over the Bruins, despite the missed opportunities at the line. Landon concluded the first half with a strong 41-25 lead. 

In the second half, Landon ramped up the defensive pressure causing the Bruins to turn the ball over 18 times with their strong full-court trap defense. Between multiple 10-second violations, passes out of bounds, and Landon steals, the Bruins simply had no answer for the Bears’ potent defense. 

Throughout the game, Landon turned intense defense into fast-paced offense, scoring 38 points off turnovers. Offensively, the trio of Coleman, Hobson, and Frankie Mannino helped lead Landon with a combined total of 58 of the team’s 98 points. 

Following an impressive victory, Landon will hope to ride the momentum of the first game against Greenbelt, while the Bruins will look to make a turnaround against Forest Park.
