DeMatha vs Bullis featured two unbeaten teams in the Capitol Hoops Summer League, as Bullis defeated DeMatha, 61 – 58. A tightly contested game between the two schools the whole way through, both teams struggled to make shots in the first half, as both teams traded scoring runs of their own. DeMatha held their largest lead of the game, 11 points with 6:38 in the first half to go, but Bullis was able to respond with an impressive six minute stretch of basketball hitting a couple late threes to lead DeMatha by two at the half.
The second half was a continued battle between the two teams, as both teams played a physical brand of basketball. The difference in today’s game was DeMatha’s shot selection and shot making, as they shot 6 for 26 from three point land. Bullis continued to attack the paint, and attempted 17 free throws to DeMatha’s five in the second half. Bullis Center, Eric Reibe, was the standout player today for the Bulldogs. He tallied a double – double, with 17 points and 12 rebounds, as well as four blocks on the defensive end. His timely rebounds and made shots around the rim in the late minutes along with poor possessions in the last two minutes for Dematha, gave Bullis the three point win. Bullis moves to 3-0, and plays the Warriors (Sherwood) tomorrow. DeMatha moves to 4-1, and looks to rebound against Potomac School on June 6th. Fans should be excited, as there is a likely chance of the two teams rematching later in the playoffs, and hopefully a high possibility of seeing another thriller like today’s game.
